Timeline won the 2021 UN Women China Region Women’s Empowerment Principles Awards SME Champions

On October 20, 2021 (Beijing time), the “2021 International Conference on Gender Equality and Corporate Social Responsibility and WEPs Award Ceremony” hosted by the UN Women’s China Office and the Delegation of the European union to China was held in Beijing. During the conference, UN Women presented awards to 10 winners of the 2021 UN Women Asia-Pacific Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards in China. Timeline Consultancy (abbreviated as “Timeline”) attended this meeting as the champion of SME awards in China and accepted the award on site.

Senior trainer Roland Meng, on behalf of Timeline, accepted the award and gave an acceptance speech, “Gender equality is not a slogan, it can be implemented. In this process, men cannot be absent, and men also need to learn, participate, and change some of their consciousness and behaviors, so that gender equality can be better promoted”.

As the first WEPs awards initiative in the Asia-Pacific region, the award aims to recognize exemplary business practices that promote gender equality in line with the WEPs initiated by UN Women and the UN Global Compact.

What does women's empowerment mean to Timeline?

 

Founded in 2002, Timeline is a Chinese company specializing in employee relations management consulting. Since its establishment, it has been a small business dominated by women. In the course of 20 years of development:

 

on the one hand, within the organization, the uniqueness and different ideas, experiences, opinions and feelings of each employee are respected, hence stimulating the creativity of female employees and supporting their development;

 

on the other hand, in all kinds of employee relations management consulting projects, Timeline focuses on driving companies to create an inclusive, fair and diverse working environment, and promoting every woman in the company to be seen, heard, and respected. If possible, Timeline will add some content related to female employee development in some projects.

 

 

Why did Timeline apply for the WEPs Awards?

 

Timeline believes that applying for the WEPs award can remind more managers and organizations engaged in consulting services not to take WEPs as a slogan or principles. In fact, it needs some management mechanism as a guarantee to implement WEPs in daily work. Our experience tells us that this can be done. WEPs are operable and can be implemented in practice. We also hope to give business management and other consulting agencies more confidence.

 

At the same time, WEPs are not scattered activities or a campaign, but can be guaranteed by mechanism. Timeline hopes that more peers could join and support this work.

 

 

How does Timeline promote women’s empowerment?

 

Timeline uses its own influence and cooperation with business partners to promote women's empowerment from the following three aspects:

 

1) In training and consulting projects, Timeline will consciously raise the gender awareness of all parties, advocate gender equality and inclusive management in the workplace, and pay particular attention to the change of awareness of the corporate senior management;

 

2) In order to create an equal and safe working space in enterprises, Timeline will pay special attention to whether there are some compliance risks or potential risks in the companies during the projects, be mindful of the establishment of risk prevention mechanisms, and pay close heed to the change in behaviors of frontline and mid-level management;

 

3) In the dialogue project promoted by Timeline, Timeline will pay special attention to sufficient representation and voice of female employees, keep an eye on the participation of female employees, and encourage dialogue between female employees and management.

 

 

What impact has Timeline's work on women's empowerment brought to the society?

 

As of August 2021, Timeline has provided more than 200 companies with survey and evaluation, training and consulting services related to gender equality and women's empowerment.

 

 

For female employees in the companies: these projects have facilitated the solutions to some female employees’ concerns or their special needs, and meanwhile, improved female employees’ personal capabilities, career development, personal self-confidence, and happiness.

 

 

For the companies: Timeline’s work has enhanced managers’ understanding and mutual communication with female employees. While the capabilities of female employees are being developed, it also promotes the growth of the company’s employee team and the management team, thereby enabling the companies to benefit in sustainable development.

 

 


What experience does Timeline hope to share with the community?

 

 

As a small company in the private sector, can it make a difference under the macro topic of gender equality? The answer is YES. Firstly, start from ourselves; secondly, start from our service.

 

 

Start from ourselves and maintain consistency in providing services. When facing some doubts and challenges in the service, Timeline is open and calm, and willing to conduct in-depth communication with various opinions. At the same time, this process of in-depth discussion is valuable when a consistent and inclusive attitude is taken to guide the discussion by taking ourselves as an example.

 

 

Because consulting and training will have a certain coverage and influence, Timeline cherishes every opportunity to contact with various companies. Although some projects do not deal with gender equality, Timeline will quietly integrate the perspective of gender equality into the projects.

 

 

The role of a small private sector is limited, but Timeline believes that perseverance is effective. When gender equality becomes the gene of a company, it will permeate all behaviors of the company.
