On February 28th, 2023, Timeline held its first open-class session on the theme of “Creating Family Friendly Workplaces” in Guangzhou, which marked this topic being one of the important topics in Timeline’s work areas in the field of employee relations management.
This topic responds to some trends in recent years, including China promulgating relevant national policies and laws & regulations since 2021, e.g., the National Human Rights Action Plan (2021-2025), the Outline of Women’s Development in China (2021-2030), the new version of the Population and Family Planning Law and the newly-revised Law on the Protection of Women’s Rights and Interests, the Department of Women Workers of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) publishing the Guidebook on Creating Family-Friendly Workplaces, and the International Labour Organization, UN Women, and UNICEF launching relevant policy guidelines related to the creation of family-friendly workplaces.
These policies and guidelines have been released quite recently. The open class deepened the participants’ understanding of this topic, including trends, connotations, methods, ideas, and practices regarding family-friendly workplaces. It also provided insight into some of the possible challenges of this topic in the field of CSR and corporate governance, and sparked in-depth discussions on related issues in an open manner without skipping the challenges.
This open class opened up new perspectives for industry veterans engaged in supply chain management, corporate social responsibility, human resource management and employee relations management. On the one hand, this topic shed light on new ideas for self-governance and sustainable development of enterprises; on the other hand, it provided rich case references and inspiration for professionals and specialists on how to carry out concrete on-the-ground work with visible results within enterprises.
